The Spring City Red Sox, Pennsylvania's top legion team this summer, find themselves in a familiar precarious situation at the 2010 Mid-Atlantic National Regional Tournament. For the third straight week, the Region 3 natives have dropped into the loser's bracket on the first day with an opening round defeat.
If the Region 3 and PA State tournaments were any indication, Spring City's season is far from over. Unlike last week, when it seemed they had a favorable match-up against Region 8 champion Millcreek and just beat themselves, today's opponent comes into the tournament as one of the favorites. Brooklawn, New Jersey is fresh off its twenty-forth state title last week and downed the Red Sox 9-3 in the second overall game at Owls Field in West Lawn.
Brooklawn's starting pitcher did most of the damage for the New Jersey champions, he held Spring City in check for much of the game and nailed a booming three run homerun in the fourth inning that turned a 2-1 Red Sox lead into a 4-2 deficit.
Spring City was able to add another run before the end of the game, but not before Brooklawn got five more runs off of Spring City's relief pitching. Brooklawn advances to game eight tomorrow night against the winner of the Chesapeake, VA vs. West Lawn game. Spring City will play again tomorrow at about 12:30, where they'll take on the loser of that game.
