It is no secret that southeastern PA has enjoyed more than their fair share of success in the past. The area, home to most of PA's Regions 2 and 3, have accounted for the last seven state championships (Region 6's Blackhawk took home the title in 2003). Many of those teams that have made a name for themselves are back in the mix for league titles this week.
In Region 2, perennial power Boyertown won the winner's bracket final of the Berks County League last night and have assured themselves a bid in the tournament's final game. Pennridge, the reigning state runner-up, has rallied from a seventh place regular season finish to earn a spot in the BuxMont title game. Lower Macungie has played their way into the Lehigh Valley League championship, after North and South Parkland represented the league a year ago. In the Northampton County League, returning champion Nazareth will once again play in the championship series where they will take on Bath. In the Schuylkill-Berks, neither Southern Area or Muhlenberg represented the league last season at regionals, but both have made a name for themselves with strong postseason showings in the past (including Muhlenberg's 2000 state championship).
NorChester has returned to the Chester County League final in Region 3. The Bulldogs have some unfinished business from last year where many people considered them to be a state final hopeful before they were defeated by the eventual state champion Spring City in the regional tournament. Whitpain has the upper hand in the Greater Norristown league where they will meet one of the three other championship hopefuls tomorrow. Former state and national champion Yardley-Western is back in the Lower Bucks League championship after a brief hiatus from the regional tournament. Returning champion Fort Washington takes on upstart Roslyn this evening in the Lower MontCo league championship. Roslyn is looking for their first regional berth in over two decades. Out in the Main Line League, Narberth has clinched a championship bid after knocking off Springfield in the winner's bracket final. And finally, in Philadelphia, Delaware Valley and Loudenslager face off after former champion Ivy Ridge failed to make the final round.
Check back often as we post updates on these championships and more from around the state!
