The 2013 PA Region 2 tournament will commence Saturday morning at Bear Stadium in Boyertown with a strong field of teams looking to continue southeastern PA's dominance in the state playoffs.
Boyertown, the host of the tournament, won the Berks County League regular season before going 2-2 in the league playoffs. The Bears will open up their tournament in game four against Lehigh Valley representative Salisbury.
Twin Valley will join Boyertown as the other Berks County representative by way of topping Exeter twice this evening en route to the postseason league championship. They will begin their tournament play in the third game of the day as they take on Nazareth or Easton of the Northampton County League.
North Parkland returns to regionals as the regular and postseason champion of the Lehigh Valley League where they topped the league's other representative, Salisbury, in the final. The Buffaloes begin play early on Saturday in game one against Pottstown of the Bux-Mont League.
Salisbury will make their first regional appearance in quite some time as they take on the host Boyertown in the first day's nightcap. The team's only losses of the league playoffs came at the hands of North Parkland.
Nazareth and Easton will both represent the Northampton County League this weekend. The teams are currently locked in a tied three game series, each team taking a game so far. The league title will be decided on Wednesday evening. The winner of the game will take on Oley/Topton in the second game of the tournament while the loser will take on Twin Valley in the third game of the day.
Pottstown won the Bux-Mont League title in dramatic fashion as they topped Plumstead on Tuesday evening. The Steelers will make the short journey up to Bear Stadium where they will take on North Parkland in the opening contest of the tournament.
Oley/Topton clinched the Schuylkill-Berks crown by taking a best of three series over Pine Grove, two games to none. The team, which is comprised of two Berks county towns, will take on the Northampton County champion in the day's second game.
