League's around Region Seven are now in the thick of their playoffs. In Jefferson County, the four team, double-elimination playoffs began with two games. Punxsutawney defeated Clearfield 11-8, while top seed DuBois beat Brookville 10-5. Brookville will travel to Clearfield for a loser's bracket matchup, while Punxsutawney will play DuBois for a spot in the finals. No matter what, Clearfield's season will continue past this round, since it host next week's regional tournament.
The Central Penn playoffs also kicked off following a similar format. Perennial power State College got off to a good start by beating last year's regional champ Mifflin County 3-1. Beech Creek also was victorious, defeating Tyrone 3-2. Mifflin County and Tyrone will meet in an elimination game, while State College and Beech Creek meet in the winner's bracket final.
The Somerset Businessmen clinched one of the two regional berths alloted to the Cambria County League by virtue of their 15-4 semifinal victory over Portage. The game was stopped after 5 innings due to the mercy rule. Somerset will await the winner of the Bedford-Claysburg series. Bedford stayed alive by defeating Claysburg 13-6 to force a decisive third game to be played at Claysburg. The winner will also advance to the regional tournament at Clearfield.
