Marion Center and Indiana Legion advanced to the championship series in Indiana County with playoff wins Saturday. Game 1 is set for 2pm Sunday in Marion Center. Game 2 will be played in Indiana on Monday at 6pm. If necessary, Game 3 will be in Marion Center on Tuesday at 6pm.
Indiana Legion [12-10] completed the sweep of regular season champion Blairsville [14-8 league, 14-10 overall] with a 10-2 win. Nathan Baker pitched a complete game with the help of stellar defensive work by his teammates. Tyler Grube got the win in Game 1, a 5-3 victory for Indiana Legion, and also tripled to help his own cause.
Marion Center [12-11], the hottest team in the league with 7 wins in its last 8 outings, defeated defending league champion Homer City Post 493 [12-11] by a score of 9-4 to win the series 2-1. CJ Stiles went the distance to get the win. The series was highlighted by Marion Center's opportunistic offense, solid defense, and effective pitching by Nick Lamantia, Mike Cavazza, Skyler Eckenrode, and Stiles. There were also a surprising number of home runs in the series. For Homer City, Luke Loughner clubbed 2 round trippers, and Jordan Long and Eric Cusimano added 1 each. Marion Center's Seth Goodlin got in on the act with a home run in Game 1. Homer City won Game 1 by a score of 8-7, but Marion Center grabbed the momentum with a 10-3 win in Game 2.
