Scott Dierdorf was a one man wrecking crew in game two of the 2010 Pennsylvania American Legion Baseball Tournament earlier today at Bear Stadium. He had ten strikeouts on the mound for Hopewell, and also added a solo home run.
Hopewell got things going in the second, when they scored their first run on a double and rbi single. Upper Dauphin evened things in the fourth inning on a crazy sacrifice bunt attempt that ended in the runner from first coming all the way around the bases to score.
Dierdorf's homer gave the region six champions a one run lead, one which they did not relinquish. Another solo shot followed, and a rbi single in the top of the ninth put the total tally at four for Hopewell.
Upper Dauphin got one back in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn't enough to avoid dropping into the loser's bracket.
Upper Dauphin returns tomorrow in the second game of the day for a showdown with State College, the loser of which is eliminated. Hopewell will take on host Boyertown in the final game of the evening.
